Overview

The complete arterial tree originating from the aorta. The aorta divides into the brachiocephalic trunk (supplying head and forelimbs) and continues as the descending aorta (supplying trunk and hindlimbs). The digital arteries in the hoof are critical for laminar blood supply - disruption leads to laminitis.

Clinical Significance

Doppler ultrasonography evaluates blood flow in major vessels. Digital pulse assessment is a daily lameness/laminitis screening tool.
