Check Ligament

Overview

Check ligaments in the equine limb include the superior check ligament (accessory ligament of the superficial digital flexor tendon) and the inferior check ligament (accessory ligament of the deep digital flexor tendon). These ligaments help limit over-extension of the flexor tendons and provide additional support during weight-bearing. The inferior check ligament is more commonly associated with issues affecting the navicular region and DDFT function. This information is for educational purposes only. Always consult with a licensed veterinarian for diagnosis and treatment of your horse.
