Musculus flexor carpi radialis
Flexes and slightly rotates the carpus medially. Its tendon is palpable on the medial forearm and is a useful landmark for regional anesthesia.
Origin: Medial epicondyle of the humerus
Insertion: Proximal MC2 (medial splint bone) and MC3
Action: Flexes the carpus
Innervation: Median nerve (C8-T1)
Strain from intense work, especially in horses doing lateral work with significant carpal flexion demands.
Strain from intense work, especially in horses doing lateral work with significant carpal flexion demands. Signs include: Heat and swelling on the medial forearm; pain on palpation; lameness worse on soft ground; reluctance to flex the carpus fully.
