Musculus flexor carpi ulnaris
Flexes the carpus from the lateral side. Has two heads (humeral and ulnar) that converge on the accessory carpal bone. Important for carpal stability.
Origin: Medial epicondyle of the humerus (humeral head) and olecranon (ulnar head)
Insertion: Accessory carpal bone
Action: Flexes the carpus
Innervation: Ulnar nerve (C8-T2)
Fractures of the accessory carpal bone disrupt the insertion of this muscle, causing carpal instability and pain.
Fractures of the accessory carpal bone disrupt the insertion of this muscle, causing carpal instability and pain. Signs include: Carpal swelling; lameness worse on flexion of the carpus; palpable pain over the accessory carpal bone; difficulty with sharp turns; carpal instability.
