Musculus gracilis

Overview

A broad, flat muscle on the medial thigh. Adducts the hindlimb and assists in hip extension. Forms part of the visible muscular contour of the inner thigh.

Anatomical Details

Origin: Pelvic symphysis and prepubic tendon

Insertion: Medial surface of the tibia, crural fascia, and calcaneal tuber

Action: Adducts the hindlimb; extends the hip; flexes the stifle

Innervation: Obturator nerve (L4-L6)

Clinical Significance

Forms the caudal border of the femoral triangle. The symphysial tendon formed by right and left gracilis muscles is a palpable landmark.
