Short muscles connecting adjacent cervical spinous processes. Extend individual cervical segments and provide proprioceptive feedback.
Origin: Caudal border of one cervical spinous process
Insertion: Cranial border of the next caudal cervical spinous process
Action: Extends individual cervical segments; fine segmental control
Innervation: Dorsal branches of cervical spinal nerves (segmental)
While less common than in the thoracolumbar region, impingement of cervical spinous processes occurs and irritates these muscles.
