Musculus subclavius
A small muscle in the pectoral region that assists in stabilizing the thorax within the forelimb sling. In horses (which lack a clavicle), it blends with the brachiocephalicus at the clavicular intersection.
Origin: Cranial surface of the first rib and costal cartilage
Insertion: Clavicular intersection (fibrous band replacing the clavicle)
Action: Stabilizes the pectoral girdle; assists in forelimb protraction
Innervation: Subclavian nerve from the brachial plexus (C5-C6)
