Musculus tensor fasciae antebrachii
A thin strap muscle on the caudal surface of the upper arm that tenses the antebrachial fascia and assists in elbow extension. Works with the triceps group.
Origin: Caudal border of the scapula and latissimus dorsi tendon
Insertion: Olecranon via the antebrachial fascia
Action: Tenses the forearm fascia; assists elbow extension
Innervation: Radial nerve (C7-T1)
Damage to the radial nerve (from prolonged lateral recumbency during anesthesia, fractures, or kicks) paralyzes the entire triceps group.

Signs include: Dropped elbow; inability to extend the elbow and carpus; knuckling at the fetlock; horse cannot advance the limb normally; dragging the toe.; Consult veterinarian for specific symptoms.; inability to extend the carpus and digits; the horse stands with the knee flexed and knuckled over; toe dragging; can occur without fracture from external compression.; inability to advance the limb
