Overview

A deep caudal leg muscle that flexes the hock and assists in stabilizing the tarsal joints. Part of the deep flexor group of the hind limb.

Anatomical Details

Origin: Caudal surface of the tibia and fibula

Insertion: Sustentaculum tali and proximal plantar metatarsus

Action: Flexes the hock; assists in plantar support

Innervation: Tibial nerve (L5-S2)
