Musculus triceps brachii caput laterale

Overview

The largest and most superficial head of the triceps, visible as the muscular mass behind the shoulder. Primary extensor of the elbow and essential for weight bearing.

Anatomical Details

Origin: Deltoid tuberosity and lateral surface of the proximal humerus

Insertion: Olecranon process of the ulna

Action: Extends the elbow; bears weight during stance phase

Innervation: Radial nerve (C7-T1)
