Musculus triceps brachii caput mediale
The smallest triceps head, lying deep on the medial humerus. Assists in elbow extension and provides fine motor control of the elbow joint.
Origin: Medial surface of the humeral shaft
Insertion: Olecranon process of the ulna
Action: Extends the elbow; stabilizes the elbow during stance
Innervation: Radial nerve (C7-T1)

Strain of the medial head can cause deep elbow pain that is difficult to localize, often mistaken for other forelimb lameness. Signs include: Subtle forelimb lameness worse on firm ground; pain on deep palpation of the medial elbow; shortened cranial phase of stride; reluctance to fully extend the elbow.
