Rotation of the large colon along its long axis (>270°). A surgical emergency and one of the most common causes of fatal colic. The large colon is predisposed because it lacks a mesenteric attachment along much of its length.

Severe, unrelenting abdominal pain; rapid cardiovascular deterioration (tachycardia >60 bpm, prolonged CRT); abdominal distension; nasogastric reflux; endotoxemia
