Diaphragma et Pulmones
The diaphragm is the primary muscle of respiration, separating the thoracic and abdominal cavities. The equine lungs weigh approximately 5-7 kg total and have a capacity of 40-55 liters. During galloping, the locomotor-respiratory coupling synchronizes each stride with one breath, optimizing oxygen exchange at speeds up to 70 km/h.
Rebreathing examination increases tidal volume to auscultate deeper lung fields. EIPH is detected via endoscopic examination of the trachea after exercise.

Infection of both the lungs and pleural space. Signs include: Severe depression; high fever; difficulty breathing; reluctance to move; pleural fluid on ultrasound
